Color: Seattle

The most dramatic growth spurt in Seattle’s history occurred during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897.  Advertising itself as the "Gateway to the Gold Fields," the Port of Seattle quickly became the primary supply and transport point for prospectors heading to the Yukon.  Throughout the 20th century, Seattle grew in both population and prominence, eventually hosting a World’s Fair in 1962.  It now serves as an incubator for globally recognized companies, such as Amazon, Starbucks, and Boeing.
